FOOD & WINE in TURKEY

One of the specialties of Turkey is to touch and captivate all your senses. An atmosphere of luxury, maybe candlelight for ambience, before the ceremony begins with the satisfying pop of cork. Smell the delicate fragrance of the wine and prepare for the crisp white flavor of white or dark intense, perhaps smoky red. Smell the bouquet as you swirl the wine around the glass. In the right setting, wine in the glass is liquid gemstones and is surely a taste of heaven. And so begins the festival with the taste of Turkish meze (appetizers), together with spices from Anatolia and olive oil from the Aegean Coast. After this welcome, warm greetings continue with world famous foods like tandoor from central Anatolia, Adana & shish kebab from the Mediterranean coast, and Eggplant & Urfa kebabs from Eastern Anatolia. Ottoman cuisine is full of indescribable tastes from first to last… Baklava, chicken-breast pudding, and other lush, intense desserts whisper that the festival will end soon. Strong, aromatic Turkish coffee along with double-baked lokum, Turkish delights, finishes the festival with its bitter-sweet taste.

DID YOU KNOW ?

» A traditional baklava has at least 40 layers.

» In the chicken breast pudding, we really use chicken breasts

» Refusing food served by your host is a social faux-pas according to Turkish culture.

AEGEAN FOOD & WINE

AEGEAN COUSINE

Olives, olive oil, and wine form the holy trinity of Aegean cuisine. Great olive-oiled appetizers, fresh & crispy green salads, and delicious seafood along with delicate or full-bodied wine, or with Turkish raki, sets a table fit for gods.

TRADITIONAL SOUTH EAST TASTES

The richness of culture is reflected in the shine of the copper plates. Spicy foods, kebabs, eggplants, rice, and energy-full desserts are like an invitation to an unknown kingdom.

CAPPADOCIAN WINES & TANDOOR

The ancient volcanic nature of the area not only affects the culture but the plants too. Grapes enriched with minerals create the unique difference in Cappadocian wines. Foods roasted or baked in the deep traditional tandoor oven will introduce you to the special local tastes of Anatolia.

WINE TOURS in TURKEYfood and wine travel turkey

Drink of the gods and goddesses, wine has had a special role throughout history. It was the irresistible drink of centaurs (half man, half horse), legend tells us. They could smell a good wine from a hundred miles away… In Greek mythology, Dionysus, the God of Wine, originally hailed from Anatolia. He is depicted with his head surrounded by grapevine leaves and grapes.

Matiana Travel invites you to trace the grapes dropped from Dionysus’ head…
